David Puig has secured his third professional win by capturing the Australian PGA Championship, adding to his two previous Asian Tour victories. On Sunday, the LIV Golf player posted a flawless, bogey-free 66, finishing five under par to claim his first DP World Tour title.
China’s Ding Wenyi also scored 66 and came in second, two strokes behind Puig. Australians Marc Leishman and New Zealand’s Nick Voke, both Asian Tour members like Puig, tied for third, just one shot further back.
Puig is the first Spaniard to win this event since Seve Ballesteros in 1981. Reflecting on his win, Puig said it felt incredible, especially after several near misses over the past couple of years. Despite feeling nervous and reflecting on what he could have improved, he maintained his composure well.
At 23, Puig’s first professional victory came in 2023 at the International Series Singapore, followed by a win at the Malaysian Open the next year. He also narrowly missed winning last year’s International Series Macau, losing in a playoff to American John Catlin.
Puig competes for Fireballs GC in LIV Golf and finished 10th in the League’s individual rankings this season.
